The recent announcement of the minimum wage as 22,104 liras has caused a stir in AKP circles. According to a report by Yücel Kayaoğlu from the Türkiye newspaper, the reactions coming from electoral districts following the announcement have practically jammed the deputies' phones.
WE WERE SURPRISED WHEN WE HEARD THE FIGURE
The following statements stood out in the evaluations made by deputies in the corridors:
“We were also surprised when we heard the figure. We were expecting an increase around 23,500 or 24,000 liras. When 22,104 liras was announced, we thought our President might make an adjustment at the group meeting, but that did not happen. The reactions from citizens have also been conveyed to our President.”
Among the reactions, the issue that while the minimum wage was increased by 30 percent, the taxes, fees, and fines collected by the state were raised by 44 percent draws attention. Deputies commented, “Citizens are rightfully questioning this contradiction. Furthermore, while a 30 percent increase was made to the minimum wage, the support provided to employers was increased by 43 percent. There is an imbalance here as well.”
