Announcement from Mansur Yavaş: 'Will open in two districts'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality organized a "Unity Meal" event on the occasion of the month of Muharram, a symbol of unity, solidarity, and abundance, and served ashure to citizens.

The event was attended by Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, CHP Ankara Deputy Adnan Beker, CHP Ankara Deputy Aliye Timisi Ersever, CHP Ankara Provincial Chair Ümit Erkol, and CHP district mayors.

Speaking before the ashure service, ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated that the month of Muharram reminds us of Karbala, one of the most tragic events in human history, and said, "When the date showed the year 680, our Prophet's grandson, Husayn ibn Ali, was massacred by the order of Yazid. 72 people, including children, were martyred after being left without water. This pain remains fresh even after 1345 years."

Emphasizing the significance of the mourning fasts held for 12 days every year by the Alevi-Bektashi community, one of the fundamental colors of Anatolia, Yavaş said, "I wish for the fasts held to be accepted in the sight of God. I hope that the abundance of the ashure will strengthen our unity and brotherhood."

Stating that they have been holding the ashure event regularly every year since they took office in 2019, Yavaş said that distribution was carried out all over Ankara this year as well. Yavaş said, "Throughout our administration, we have continued our work with the same philosophy, accepting everyone as one and together, without discriminating against anyone for any reason, regardless of their gender, race, or belief. Because discriminating against people is neither becoming of our conscience nor contrary to our understanding. For this reason, since the day we arrived, we have been holding the ashure event regularly since 2019, which had not been done for 25 years."

Yavaş also provided information about the cemevis planned to be built in the city. Announcing that two new cemevi projects are being prepared in the Mamak and Gölbaşı districts, excluding Keçiören, Yavaş said, "The cemevi to be built in Mamak's İmrahor neighborhood will have 3 thousand square meters of indoor space and 1980 square meters of landscape area. The cemevi to be built in Gölbaşı's Bahçelievler neighborhood has been designed with 2 thousand square meters of indoor space and 2 thousand 500 square meters of landscape area. Both structures will include areas such as multi-purpose halls, a dining hall, meeting rooms, a retirees' club, and a guesthouse. They will be put into service within the scope of the 2026 investment program."
