Another ban on women in Afghanistan: Windows ordered to be closed

The Taliban, which took control of Afghanistan in 2021, has added a new restriction to those imposed on women. According to a new decree issued by the Taliban, windows in residential buildings that overlook areas used by women have been banned. It was announced that existing windows must be closed.
Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that in newly constructed buildings, windows that make it possible to see “places used by women, such as courtyards, kitchens, or a neighbor's well,” should not be built.

The decree argued that women being seen while working in the courtyard or kitchen, or while collecting water from a well, could “lead to indecent acts.” Furthermore, municipal authorities and relevant departments will inspect construction sites to ensure there are no windows that overlook neighbors' homes.
Homeowners have been advised to close such windows or build walls to block the view in order to avoid violating the privacy of their neighbors.
