Another early election statement from CHP: 'We will talk about it seriously'

The Republican People's Party (CHP) Manisa Provincial Advisory Board Meeting was held at the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Culture Center Lale Hall, with the participation of Deputy Chairman, Party Spokesperson, and İzmir Deputy Deniz Yücel. 

The meeting, which began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, was attended by CHP Manisa deputies Bekir Başevirgen and Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu, CHP Manisa Provincial Chair İlksen Özalper, district chairs, district mayors, women's and youth branch chairs, and numerous party members.

“ATATÜRK IS OUR RED LINE"

Taking the podium after the opening speech by CHP Provincial Chair İlksen Özalper, CHP Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Yücel said, “We have three red lines. The first is our founder, our savior, our unchangeable leader, the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk; he is our red line. The second is the indivisible integrity of the Republic of Turkey with its country and nation. 

Our homeland and our republic, the unchangeable articles of the founding characteristics listed in the first four articles of our constitution. And the third is our red flag, the symbol of our independence, which takes its color from the blood of our martyrs. These are our red lines. 

Outside of these, we listen to every opinion, we respect every opinion, we can talk about everything. Democracy means talking, it means debating, it means compromising, it means producing common sense. As you know, on one hand, we are taking certain steps for the normalization of the country. On the other hand, we continue to oppose in the harshest way both in parliament and in the field, on the streets. The country must normalize,” he said.

"EARLY ELECTION WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE PEOPLE WANT IT"

Continuing his speech by saying, “An early election debate is ongoing,” Yücel said, “I always say this; we came out of an election 3 months ago. People elected their mayors. People elected their municipal council members. In other words, they elected local administrators. Now it is time for those mayors to serve. We are not talking about an early election today, but perhaps a year from now, next year, we will talk about this seriously. 

Our chairman used very clear expressions on this subject. Our chairman put an end to it yesterday. Our number of deputies is not enough to take the country to an early election. But if the government continues to govern the country in this way, if it continues to close its eyes and ears to the problems of the people, if the problems of the people and the burden on their shoulders continue to increase, then this government will be forced to hold an early election. 

If the people want an early election, no one can withstand it. No one can resist it. An early election will happen when the people want it. We want it to happen immediately, next week. But as I said, there is a decision that needs to be taken with a majority in parliament,” he said. Following Yücel's speech, the meeting continued behind closed doors.
