Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who was detained after being targeted by Oktay Saral, chief advisor to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was arrested on charges of threatening the president and sent to Silivri Prison.

Altaylı, who faces up to 5 years in prison, will appear before a judge for the first time as part of the case in which he is being tried while in custody. The hearing will begin today at 10:00 AM.

In a letter sent to his YouTube channel before the critical hearing, Altaylı stated the following:

"I will have woken up at 5:30 AM, shaved, put on the suit I kept in my prison locker for today, and will be preparing for my trial to be held in the courtroom in Silivri. I saw that the collar of my white shirt was stained, so I washed it immediately. I bleached the collar and ironed it as best as I could. I requested the ties I had placed in safekeeping when I entered prison. I will be before the panel of judges at 10:00. Let us say may it be for the best for us. I wish everyone a pleasant day."
