Application filed with Administrative Court: 'We requested a stay of execution for the trustee decision'

The CHP Bursa Provincial Organization protested the arrest of Mustafa Bozbey and his removal from the office of Bursa Metropolitan Mayor in front of the municipal building. CHP Bursa Provincial Chair Nihat Yeşiltaş stated, 'When we woke up this morning, we saw that a trustee had been appointed. For this reason, we applied to the administrative court today and requested a stay of execution for the trustee decision.'

'WE REQUESTED A STAY OF EXECUTION FOR THE DECISION'

In his statement, CHP Bursa Provincial Chair Yeşiltaş expressed the following:

'The actions taken against our Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, who was arrested unlawfully, are unfortunately continuing. According to the schedule notified to us by the Governor's Office, a vote for the acting mayor will be held in the municipal council on Thursday, April 9, at 11:00 AM. According to the regulations, in the absence of the mayor, the first deputy mayor, or if they are unavailable, the second deputy mayor, serves until the election day. However, we encountered a new illegality today.

When we woke up this morning, we saw that a trustee had been appointed. However, for a trustee to be appointed, it is required that the election cannot be held within 10 days or that a situation preventing the election has emerged. So far, there is no element in the council that would prevent the election. While we were waiting for the election to be held on Thursday, we were faced with such an implementation. For this reason, we applied to the administrative court today and requested a stay of execution for the trustee decision.

'WE WILL NOT GIVE UP THE STRUGGLE'

We clearly see here that the issue is no longer a legal matter. What is being attempted is an operation to seize the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which was elected with the legitimate votes of the people of Bursa. We are going through a process where the law has lost its meaning. We will fight to the end for the rule of law to function in this country. We will not give up this struggle until the last person remains in these lands. If you have any courage, come, let's put the ballot box on Sunday; let's do whatever the people of Bursa say. Despite an election won by a margin of approximately 200 thousand votes, you are still calculating 'how can we ignore this will'.

Since the day we took over the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, we have continued to serve the public with financial discipline, despite all the obstacles. You managed this city for 20 years; ask yourselves: what did you do for Bursa? You could not digest it when the Republican People's Party came to power. Mustafa Bozbey came by increasing his votes in every election for 20 years. You were afraid of this. You tried to intervene in this process by saying, 'We can no longer win elections.' We will never surrender to the illegalities and injustices you have committed.'

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Bozbey was detained 8 days ago in a dawn operation as part of an investigation conducted by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. On Saturday, an arrest warrant was issued for him. Bozbey was removed from his post by the Ministry of Interior on the same day.

Following his arrest, Bursa Deputy Governor Hulusi Doğan was appointed to replace Mustafa Bozbey, who was removed from his post as Bursa Metropolitan Mayor by the Ministry of Interior, until an acting mayor is elected.

The Bursa Metropolitan Municipal Council will convene on April 9 to elect an acting mayor to replace Bozbey.
