Within the scope of the presidential appointments published in the Official Gazette, the governors of 16 provinces were changed. The most notable name among the appointments was former Hatay Governor Rahmi Doğan.
A criminal complaint was filed against Doğan by Cahit Aşkar, an earthquake survivor who lost his wife Ayşegül and son Latif Muhammed in the February 6 earthquakes, during the period when Doğan was the Governor of Hatay.
Cahit Aşkar held the then-Governor of Hatay, Rahmi Doğan, responsible for the destruction in which 15 people, including his wife Ayşegül and son Latif Muhammed, lost their lives.
Cahit Aşkar had filed a criminal complaint with the Hatay Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Doğan, alleging that he committed the crime of "misconduct in office" by failing to take necessary precautions before and after the earthquake, thereby causing the deaths and injuries of thousands of citizens and the collapse of thousands of buildings.
Aşkar also alleged that no aid reached the province of Hatay for several days, that Doğan failed to fulfill his duty to report the situation to authorized institutions and individuals and take measures, and that no disaster preparedness work was carried out in the province of Hatay.
NOT PROCESSED
The criminal complaint filed by the earthquake survivor on September 18, 2024, was decided to be "not processed" as a result of the examination conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation, Muhsin Şentürk.
