Halk TV columnist Mehmet Tezkan, in his article evaluating the recent statements by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli and the meeting between AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and former Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati, has provided a date for early elections.

In the new reconciliation process spearheaded by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, which the government has dubbed a "Terror-Free Turkey," a commission has begun its work in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) following the laying down of arms by a group of PKK terrorists.
One of the most curious aspects of the process is the timeline for the terrorist organization PKK to lay down its arms. In his statement yesterday, Bahçeli indicated that the Terror-Free Turkey process would be completed by the end of the year.

Evaluating Bahçeli’s words in his column today, Halk TV writer Mehmet Tezkan stated, “In other words, the laying down or burning of weapons has been left to 2026.” He then put forward an assertive date regarding early elections.
“The answer to the question of why it was postponed to 2026 is also clear… The AKP/MHP government did not get the political result it expected from the PKK dissolving itself and burning its weapons. The public did not show the necessary interest… On the contrary, voices were raised from some circles asking, 'Did you make a deal with Öcalan because you couldn't eliminate the PKK?'” said Tezkan, adding, “The truth is this; the intensification of the disarmament process, reaching the desired level, the evacuation of camps, and the increase in public interest will bring us one step closer to an election… It will both bring the country closer to an election and at the same time increase operations targeting the CHP...”
“IN OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER 2026…”
Tezkan suggested that if the government achieves the targeted environment in the PKK's disarmament process, experiences a relative improvement in the economy next summer, and sees inflation and interest rates decline, early elections could be held in October or November of 2026.
He concluded his article with the following remarks:
“The day before yesterday, Erdoğan met for 1.5 hours with former Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati, who created miracles on paper, bringing inflation down from 80 percent to 38 percent in six months, and even reducing the monthly increase to zero in the election month (May)… I cannot help but ask; is this a preparation for 2026?”
