RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin, who has previously issued warnings regarding daytime television programs, has made a statement about "total elimination or removal" if the rules are not complied with.
THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS
While providing information in Parliament, RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin said that 26 thousand 998 complaints have been received regarding these programs since 2021. Stating that "This covers 13.4 percent of our total complaint rate," Şahin noted the following:
"Daytime programs are produced by all channels, whether 'opposition' or 'non-opposition.' Daytime programs are the programs that get the highest ratings, bring in the most money, are watched the most, and are also the most complained about. We held meetings with the executives. But they comply for two or three months, paying attention to our warnings, and then they say: 'Our ratings dropped, we aren't being watched, we will return to this again.'
This does not mean that we should do anything just to be watched. When this happens, we publish principle decisions. We trust these principle decisions. Any such violations that occur from this point on will take the situation in a different direction. The process from here on is the final point. If it is said that 'nothing is changing,' our friends also know and are aware that this will eventually be completely removed through a legal regulation. Principle decisions contain both strict measures and are decisions that cannot be ignored. I think that if we are left helpless in the end, we need to move towards removing this or completely eliminating and abolishing it."
