An armed attack that took place in the morning at the historic Spice Bazaar in Fatih caused concern among local shopkeepers and citizens in the area. In the incident that occurred around 11:00 AM, it is alleged that B.A., who reportedly had a debt dispute with A.U., a business owner in the bazaar, attacked him with a firearm. Following the incident, the injured A.U. collapsed to the ground, while the suspected attacker continued to wait at the scene.
After citizens quickly reported the situation to police and medical teams, units were dispatched to the scene in a short time. Following the initial intervention by medical teams, A.U., who was described as being seriously injured, was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Police teams neutralized and took the attacker, B.A., into custody at the scene. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect for the crime of "intentional injury."
Mustafa Acar, who witnessed the moment of the incident, described what happened with these words: "I heard the sound of a gunshot. I looked and saw someone lying on the ground. I went and tried to take the gun from the person who fired it, but he wouldn't give it up. I said, 'Leave the gun on the bench and let me apply pressure to the wound.' He left his gun and said, 'Okay, you apply pressure.' I don't know what the issue between them was, but the person who was shot is a shopkeeper in the Spice Bazaar. I took off his shirt; the bullet had entered his back and exited through his stomach. I applied pressure, the police arrived, and the shooter surrendered. An ambulance came and took him away."
Ramazan Açıkgöz, a business owner in the vicinity, said: "I heard the sound of a gunshot. I was eating at the time. There was a cleaning worker there. He was applying pressure. There was a plainclothes police officer who intervened. Then police teams arrived. The injured person was in serious condition; they were saying the bullet had passed through."
Following the attack, security measures have been increased in and around the Spice Bazaar, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
