Arrest request for individual who recorded footage at IMM trial

An individual alleged to have recorded footage in the courtroom during the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) trial and to have been in possession of a fake press card has been referred to court with a request for arrest.

During the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) trial held yesterday at the Marmara Penal Execution Institution, it was determined that an individual identified as E.Y.T. had entered the courtroom with a fraudulent press card and taken photographs. The incident, which was uncovered through the vigilance of security forces, resulted in the suspect being taken into custody shortly thereafter.

In a statement regarding the matter, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated: “During the IMM trial held on 25.03.2026 at the Marmara Penal Execution Institution No. 1 (IMM Hearing) Courtroom, it was determined that an individual named E.Y.T. was taking photographs inside the courtroom in a manner that would include Gendarmerie personnel in the frame, and was using a press card deemed to be fraudulent. A judicial investigation has been initiated regarding the matter. Following the instructions of the Public Prosecutor, the individual was taken into custody to be brought to the Bakırköy Courthouse on 26.03.2026, and was subsequently referred to the duty magistrate judge with a request for arrest.”
