Istanbul Bar Association Board Member Lawyer Fırat Epözdemir was detained at Istanbul Airport following a Council of Europe defense lawyers' meeting held in Strasbourg. It was learned that Epözdemir was detained while on the plane, that a search was conducted at his office, and that a 24-hour ban on meeting with lawyers was imposed.

REFERRED TO THE COURTHOUSE

After his procedures at the police station, Epözdemir was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse, where he gave his statement to the prosecutor. The prosecutor's office referred Epözdemir to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for his arrest.

TENSION IN THE COURTROOM CORRIDORS

During the interrogation, lawyers and members of parliament were not permitted to enter the courtroom corridor. Protesting this situation, the lawyers demonstrated against the restriction with chants of "The lawyer has not been silenced, and will not be silenced."
