Arrest request for journalist Kayhan Ayhan

An arrest request has been filed against journalist Kayhan Ayhan on charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information" due to his social media posts. The Terror Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the arrest of journalist Kayhan Ayhan for the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information."

SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS SUBJECT TO INVESTIGATION

In the referral document, the prosecutor's office stated that posts made by Ayhan on his "@kayhanayhann" account on the X platform and his YouTube channel were examined. It was stated that the investigation covers posts regarding the judicial process of CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The referral document included the allegation that "it was determined that information contrary to the truth was publicly disseminated with the intent to create anxiety among the public" in the posts in question.

HE DECLARED THE POSTS WERE HIS OWN

The prosecutor's office reported that in his statement taken in the presence of law enforcement and his defense counsel, Kayhan Ayhan declared that the X and YouTube accounts subject to the investigation belonged to him and that the posts made from these accounts were carried out by him.

ARREST REQUEST REFERRED TO COURT

The prosecutor's office requested his arrest, claiming that there are facts indicating strong suspicion of a crime and grounds for arrest regarding Ayhan within the scope of the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information" regulated in Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code.
