Journalists who were covering the protests in Saraçhane following the detention and arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu had been taken into custody.
The Journalists Union of Turkey (TGS) had announced that AFP reporter Yasin Akgül, Now News reporter Ali Onur Tosun, photojournalist Bülent Kılıç, reporter Zeynep Kuray, IMM photojournalist Kurtuluş Arı, and Bakırköy Municipality photojournalist Gökhan Kam had been released under judicial control conditions.
However, after the prosecutor changed their decision, the journalists were referred to court with a request for their arrest.
In a statement made by the TGS, it was said, "Our colleagues are journalists. Their job is to inform the public. Let alone being referred for arrest, they should not have even been detained. We invite all our colleagues to the #ÇağlayanCourthouse for support and solidarity."
