Arrest request for youths protesting workplace homicide in Dilovası
Nine members of the Youth Committees who protested the explosion that caused the deaths of 6 workers in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli were detained after demonstrating on the streets of Kadıköy with a banner reading "Cause of Death: Holding Powers." A total of 6 people, including 2 children, lost their lives in an explosion that occurred recently at a cosmetics factory in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli. 7 people were injured in the incident. It was learned that the factory in question had previously been reported to CİMER due to occupational safety deficiencies and the employment of child labor. Investigations conducted after the fire revealed that the factory was unlicensed and that no action had been taken despite the complaints.
YOUTHS' PROTEST: "CAUSE OF DEATH: HOLDING POWERS"
In order to protest the workplace homicide in Dilovası, a demonstration was held in Kadıköy with a banner reading "Cause of Death: Holding Powers," with participants chanting "We do not want to die." Those who carried out the protest are known as members of the Youth Committees. Following the protest, 9 youths were detained by the police.
YOUTHS REFERRED TO THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE WITH CHARGES
The youths detained after the protest were first held at the İskele Police Station. There, they were processed on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility." Subsequently, they were referred to the Anatolian Courthouse today for their statements to the prosecutor.
IMPRISONMENT SOUGHT FOR 4 YOUTHS
Following the prosecutor's proceedings, 4 of the 9 youths were referred to the duty Magistrate Judge with a request for their arrest. The other 5 youths were brought before the judge with a request for judicial control. The arrest requests for the youths came to the fore due to the content of the protest and their banners, which were deemed illegal.
The failure to conduct necessary inspections despite complaints made to CİMER regarding the factory revealed the extent of the negligence behind the explosion and the workplace homicide that led to death. The youths who participated in the protest had demonstrated with the demand that such incidents be prevented and those responsible be punished.
