In the investigation into the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır and whose lifeless body was found 19 days later, an arrest has been requested for 9 of the 22 people whose statements were taken. Among those for whom an arrest was requested were Yüksel Güran and her father, Arif Güran. 8-year-old Narin Güran had gone missing on August 21 after leaving a Quran course in Tavşantepe Village, located in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır.
FAMILY HAD ISSUED A STATEMENT
As the case is being closely followed, the Güran family, who have faced significant backlash during this process, issued a written statement claiming they were being "targeted." The family emphasized that even if one of their members were involved in this incident, the entire family could not be blamed.
The family's statement is as follows:
"We, as the Güran family, would like to express our sorrow for having occupied the country's agenda for days due to the disappearance of our daughter Narin Güran on August 21. All units of our state have mobilized with all their resources to solve this incident during this process. They continue to work to bring the truth to light. Just as our daughter's lifeless body was found, we have no doubt that the incident will be solved, the perpetrator or perpetrators of our daughter Narin will be found, and the perpetrator or perpetrators found will be punished with the heaviest penalty.
'ATTACKS ARE BEING MADE ON QURAN COURSES AND OUR SUBLIME RELIGION'
However, while we as family members are in pain and grief during this process, our friends who follow the media have informed us that our late daughter Narin is being abused in visual and written media, and that ruthless attacks, slanders, and baseless accusations are being made against both the Güran family and the family members currently held as suspects. Furthermore, attacks are being made on Quran courses and our sublime religion due to this incident, even though they have no connection or relevance to it.
We are members of the Gevranizade family, who have lived in our Diyarbakır for centuries and have sometimes served as its administrators. Thousands of Güran family members and their nephews live in different geographies of our country, and the vast majority of them are individuals loyal to their homeland and nation.
We cannot imagine our family members killing our own daughter, but even if such a situation exists, we attribute the smearing of a whole family because of one person to certain foreign powers and their local extensions. The strategic and geographical location of the Tavşantepe neighborhood, where some of our family members live, is also a separate factor.
'WE BEG THAT THIS GAME NOT BE PLAYED'
We beg all forces affiliated with our state not to fall for this game. Unfortunately, even some conservative writers are accusing the family of treason without any investigation. If they examine the election results in the Tavşantepe neighborhood, where only a very small part of the family lives and where the incident occurred, they will be embarrassed by these statements. The election results are the greatest proof that the family is not dictatorial as alleged.
The heat of the incident is currently ongoing, and when the events are clarified and the perpetrator or perpetrators are found, legal action will be taken against the person or persons who attacked our personal rights by making slanders. We reserve our rights to material and moral compensation.
We owe a debt of gratitude to all our state officials who are working for the manifestation of the truth in this process, and to our friends who did not withhold their support from us by believing in our innocence despite all the pressure. We beg all political parties and non-governmental organizations in our country not to use our pain as political material and to wait for the result of the court. We importantly request that no statement other than those made by state officials be given any credence. Respectfully."
