Arrested during minimum wage protest: Call from CHP for Bilgekağan Şarbat

The CHP Istanbul Youth Branch has announced that a protest will be held tomorrow at Kadıköy Pier for Bilgekağan Şarbat, who was arrested following a minimum wage demonstration in Kadıköy on the grounds of slogans chanted during the event. Youth organizations called on all young people to gather at the square at 8:00 PM with the message, "If one of us is not free, none of us are free."

The CHP Istanbul Youth Branch has issued a call for a protest in support of Kadıköy Youth Branch Executive Bilgekağan Şarbat, who was detained following a minimum wage protest held on Saturday, December 27, and was arrested today.

In the statement, it was noted that the protest will take place tomorrow (December 29) at Kadıköy Pier.

CALL FROM YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS

In the call shared by the CHP Istanbul Youth Branch, it was stated, "We are raising our voices together against this order that tries to intimidate the youth."

The statement included the following remarks:

"If one of us is not free, none of us are free!

We invite all our young friends in Istanbul to Kadıköy Pier tomorrow evening at 8:00 PM.

We are coming together for our youth branch executive Bilgekağan Şarbat, for whom an arrest warrant has been issued; we are raising our voices together against this order that tries to intimidate the youth.

There is no salvation alone; either all together, or none of us!"

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bilgekağan Şarbat was physically detained by police following the demonstration held in Kadıköy. Şarbat, who was referred to the Anatolian Courthouse in Kartal today on charges of "insulting the president" based on the slogans chanted, was arrested by the presiding judge.
