Arrested in NATO Summit operation: 62-year-old TEMA volunteer breaks her leg in prison

Gül Özgür, a 62-year-old TEMA volunteer who was detained and arrested as part of a major operation carried out before the NATO Summit held in Ankara on July 7-8, broke her leg while walking in the Sincan Prison exercise yard. It was learned that Özgür, who can only attend visitations in a wheelchair, is having great difficulty meeting her basic personal needs on her own under prison conditions.

HER ANKLE TWISTED IN THE EXERCISE YARD

The accident in prison and the subsequent treatment process were described by her relatives as follows:

Gül Özgür was injured about a week ago when her ankle twisted while she was walking in the prison exercise yard. Özgür was referred to Sincan State Hospital, where a fracture was detected in her leg and it was placed in a cast.

The 62-year-old TEMA volunteer, who was brought to today's closed visitation in a wheelchair, stated that she has difficulty even taking a shower alone and needs the support of other detained TEMA volunteers in the ward for her personal care and daily needs.

CRITICAL HEARING ON THURSDAY

The 10 TEMA volunteers arrested as part of the NATO Summit operation have left their 28th day in prison behind. With health issues and age limits coming to the fore in the case, all eyes are now on the judicial process:

The critical detention review hearing, which will evaluate the status of the TEMA volunteers for whom arrest warrants were issued, will be held on Thursday, July 23.
