Greek Chief of General Staff Dimitrios Houpis made harsh and provocative statements regarding Turkey while attending the 10th Delphi Economic Forum. Describing Turkey's regional actions as "revisionist," Houpis claimed that the Greek Armed Forces are ready to respond "within 5 minutes" in any potential scenario.

'TURKEY'S ACTIONS POSE A THREAT'

Targeting Turkey's steps in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean during his speech, Houpis said, "Turkey's recent activities pose a direct threat to Greece. These approaches demonstrate that revisionist policies are being pursued with new headlines every day."

'WE WILL RESPOND IN 5 MINUTES' REMARK

Stating that the Greek army is ready to intervene against Turkey at any moment, Houpis said, "We are determined, unconditionally and without reservation. We will intervene in Turkey within 5 minutes when necessary." These words from Houpis were interpreted as a threat contrary to both diplomatic norms and peaceful relations.

Also targeting Turkey's NAVTEX announcements, Houpis evaluated these steps as an "attempt to create a psychological effect." Houpis stated, "Our armed forces are prepared for any scenario. There is no need for our public to lose confidence due to such statements."

'GREECE IS NOW READY'

Claiming that the military deficiencies experienced during the economic crisis have been resolved, the Greek commander said, "We are now operationally prepared for any development." When asked about the balance of power in the Mediterranean, he reiterated his message of vigilance toward Turkey by replying, "A Chief of General Staff can never sleep soundly."
