Artificial intelligence is entering university curricula
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that, as a result of a collaboration between the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the BTK Academy, which operates under the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), artificial intelligence courses will be included in the curricula of some universities starting in the 2024-2025 fall semester.

Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, in a written statement, noted that through this joint effort, the BTK Academy's infrastructure, training programs, and courses will be utilized by universities, and that new necessary courses will be opened and training materials prepared.
Emphasizing that courses related to digital technologies and artificial intelligence will be included in university curricula, Uraloğlu stated that they aim to reflect the courses taken from the BTK Academy on students' transcripts as extracurricular achievements.
Uraloğlu highlighted that in the first phase, work is underway to have some courses for 12 newly opened artificial intelligence-based associate degree programs, which will accept students this year, covered by BTK Academy courses. Announcing that they have completed a draft study for potential course matching, Uraloğlu stated the following:
"We have made adjustments and additions to ensure that BTK Academy courses directly correspond to the intended goals and objectives of the courses at universities. Work on preparing reports on a course-by-course basis to match BTK Academy courses with those in associate degree programs is ongoing.
The reports related to this work are planned to be completed by the end of June. Based on the resulting reports, the BTK Academy will create a pool of YÖK courses by adjusting its own curriculum to directly cover the courses in associate degree programs.
Within the scope of the project, we aim to complete the work for the courses to be taught in associate degree programs as a pilot in the 2024-2025 fall semester by the end of August. Work and matching for the spring semester and the following year's courses will continue. For some of the existing associate degree courses, suitable content cannot be found at the BTK Academy, or the available courses may be lacking in content.
For this reason, we will additionally receive proposals from our relevant universities for new courses or for filming to complete missing content. Artificial intelligence is used in almost every phase of our lives. Unfortunately, the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence can also be exploited by malicious individuals, foreign intelligence services, and terrorist organizations.
Therefore, we must educate our youth correctly on artificial intelligence and technology. In this context, we attach great importance to this collaboration with YÖK."
