Artist boycotts continue: Can Kazaz to donate copyright royalties to Özgür Özel

The "song boycott" that began in the art world against the Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu administration, which took over the CHP Headquarters following the "absolute nullity" ruling by the Ankara Regional Court of Justice, is growing. Following many artists and academics, famous singer and songwriter Can Kazaz has joined the process with a groundbreaking act of civil disobedience. Kazaz announced that instead of immediately banning the use of his songs, he would file a copyright lawsuit later and donate the entire amount of the compensation he wins to the campaigns of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.

The series of embargoes imposed by numerous figures, including writers, academics, and musicians, against the new headquarters administration shaped by the court ruling has gained a new legal and political dimension with Can Kazaz's move.

NO DIRECT BAN, BUT JUDICIAL SANCTIONS

Following the statement made yesterday by 7 artists and today by academics saying, "You cannot use our works, academic data, and music in the activities of the former administration that we do not consider legally legitimate," Can Kazaz made an ironic and strategic post on his social media account.

Stating that he would remain silent for now if Kılıçdaroğlu and his team used his music in political activities, Kazaz announced his plan with the following words:

"I will not say anything for now about my music being used in the campaigns of Kılıçdaroğlu and his team. But later, I will donate the entire amount of the punitive damages I receive through a copyright lawsuit to Özgür Özel's campaigns. Let's see, the path of the judiciary is the rule of law."
