Assault on prosecutor and his family: The behind-the-scenes of the 'restaurant is full' detention

The allegation that Public Prosecutor Mücahid Şamil Koca, who serves at the Ünye Courthouse, had the owners and employees of a venue detained because there was no available seating has become a major topic of discussion in Turkey. Making a statement regarding the matter, Prosecutor Koca said, "I was the one who was actually assaulted. My 9-month-old baby fell to the ground."

Public Prosecutor Mücahid Şamil Koca, who serves at the Ordu Ünye Courthouse, caused a scene at a venue he visited in the Aybastı district.

Koca, who went to a venue with his family to have a meal, could not find an empty table.

According to a report by T24, after finding the venue full, staff told Prosecutor Koca to return in half an hour.

ANGERED BY LACK OF SEATING

Returning 45 minutes after leaving the venue, Prosecutor Koca became angry because there was still no place to sit. The staff told the prosecutor that it was busy due to it being Sunday and that there would be a table available in an hour. Angered by this, Prosecutor Koca began arguing with the staff. It is alleged that during the argument, the prosecutor said, "I will f*** you up," and "I will make you all suffer."

 

ALLEGATION THAT HE SAID, "I AM A PROSECUTOR, I WILL MAKE YOU ALL PAY"

The argument escalated further after the owner of the venue arrived. It is alleged that the prosecutor said to the owner, "Do you know who I am?" and "I am a prosecutor, I will make you all pay." Following the escalation of the argument, the prosecutor called the gendarmerie. After the gendarmerie arrived, the prosecutor continued his threats. He then had 15 people, including the owners of the venue, detained.

While 12 people were released without being taken to the courthouse, legal proceedings for three individuals are ongoing at the courthouse.

STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR: I WAS THE ONE WHO WAS ACTUALLY ASSAULTED

As Turkey discusses the incident, a statement regarding the matter came from Public Prosecutor Mücahid Şamil Koca, whose name is mentioned in the event. Speaking to Seyhan Avşar from Gerçek Gündem, Prosecutor Koca stated that he was assaulted and that his 9-month-old baby fell to the ground.

Claiming that he had no ill intentions in the incident, the prosecutor said the following:

“It was my first time going to the Perşembe Plateau. I didn't know where to eat. I called our friends in the gendarmerie and asked. They recommended this restaurant. We went as a family. First, I asked how long the grill would take. They said, ‘It will take 20 minutes.’ I asked if we could go upstairs because I have a child. They said, ‘You can’t.’ But they were tense. I guess they were tired… Just as we were sitting down, someone came up to us. They asked if we had ordered food. I said, ‘No.’ They said you would have to wait 1 hour. You said 20 minutes first, then 30 minutes, and now you are saying 1 hour. I said, ‘Who is in charge here, let me speak with them.’”

Stating that the person in front of him suddenly got angry and attacked him, saying, "If you are a prosecutor, I am a tradesman of 20 years," Koca said, "I tried to explain the situation. But they walked towards me."

Expressing that no one shared the video of him being assaulted, Koca said, "I was punched in my right ear. My child and my mother-in-law fell to the ground. My child was screaming and crying. I called for help. The gendarmerie arrived. What my family and I experienced was horrific," he said.
