Attack on AKP mayoral candidate Recep Karataş

Recep Karataş, the mayoral candidate for the Horasan district of Erzurum, was subjected to a physical assault involving kicks and punches by unidentified individuals while he was with his family during election campaign activities in the evening hours. 

Police arrived at the scene and fired warning shots into the air, subsequently detaining two individuals who were attempting to flee. An investigation into the attack is ongoing.

Making a statement regarding the incident on social media, AKP Erzurum Provincial Chairman Attorney İbrahim Küçükoğlu stated, “I strongly condemn the heinous attempted attack on our mayoral candidate Mr. Recep Karataş, his family, and our organization members during election campaign activities. I call on all our candidates to exercise restraint and maintain calm during the election process.”
