Istanbul University students at the Faculty of Science were attacked by security guards when they wanted to decorate a tree as part of New Year's celebrations.

"SECURITY RISK" CITED AS AN EXCUSE

The students' preparations to decorate a tree in the faculty courtyard for the New Year caught the attention of security guards. The security guards intervened, claiming that decorating the tree was an "unauthorized activity" and posed a "security risk." The students, however, argued that decorating the tree was a "cultural activity" and claimed that no permission was required.

STUDENTS ATTACKED

Following the security guards' intervention, tensions escalated and some students were injured. Police teams responding to the incident took the security guards into custody. Many people criticized the security guards' intervention, arguing that the incident was an "attack on freedom and democracy."

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO THE INCIDENT

The Rectorate of Istanbul University issued a statement regarding the incident, stating that they found the security guards' intervention "inappropriate." The Rectorate announced that a detailed investigation has been launched into the incident involving the students.

While discussions continue between the university, the student body, and non-governmental organizations following the incident, the public has begun to wait for the measures to be taken by the university administration and the results of the investigation.
