Attacker who wounded police officer in Adana sent to prison

In the Çukurova district, a police officer was wounded in the leg and groin during an armed attack on police teams who arrived at the scene following a false report. The fleeing attacker was apprehended shortly after and arrested.

In an incident that occurred in the early hours of June 25 in the Çukurova district of Adana, an individual called the 112 Emergency Call Center, claiming to be followed by armed persons and requesting assistance. Teams from the Çukurova District Police Department, dispatched to the scene, began a detailed search in the area where the report was made.

During the search, police officer M.A.Ş. was subjected to an armed attack by a person who arrived in the area on a motorcycle. The identified attacker fired four shots with the handgun used in the incident, wounding M.A.Ş. in his right leg and groin. After receiving immediate first aid at the scene, the police officer was transported by ambulance to Çukurova State Hospital. The police officer, whose health condition is reported to be good, is continuing to receive treatment.

Immediately following the incident, a large-scale operation was launched to apprehend the attacker. As a result of a pursuit conducted by the Çukurova Patrol Teams, 23-year-old Can C. was apprehended shortly after and taken into custody. The handgun used by the suspect during the attack was also seized. Can C. was handed over to the Homicide Bureau after his processing at the police station.

When asked by members of the press why he shot the police officer while being taken for a medical check-up at the forensic medicine unit, the suspect replied, "By mistake." After his interrogation was completed, Can C. was brought before the duty magistrate, arrested, and sent to prison.
