Attacks on civilians continue in Sudan: 37 dead
37 civilians lost their lives in attacks carried out over the weekend in the disputed Abyei region on the border of Sudan and South Sudan.

Attacks on civilians continue in the oil-rich Abyei region, which is disputed by South Sudan and Sudan.
In a statement made by local authorities in Abyei, it was reported that 19 people were killed in attacks that took place in 4 villages in the region on Saturday, and 18 people, including 3 children, lost their lives on Sunday.
It was stated that dozens of people were injured, 18 people were kidnapped, at least 1,000 head of cattle were stolen, and many businesses were looted in the attacks. Armed groups operating in South Sudan's Warrap state are being held responsible for the attacks.
UN PEACEKEEPER HAD BEEN KILLED
Last week, 53 people, including 2 United Nations peacekeepers, were killed in the Abyei region, where ethnic clashes are taking place.
DISPUTE CONTINUES
With the peace agreement signed between Sudan and South Sudan in 2005, it was decided that the status of the Abyei region would be determined through negotiations, but no results were achieved. The status of the Abyei region has not yet been resolved, despite South Sudan gaining its independence in 2011. The African Union proposed holding a referendum for the Abyei region, but an agreement could not be reached on who would participate in the referendum.
