The incident occurred near the Dinar Municipality building. According to the information obtained, an individual identified as Kemal E., who was hiding between vehicles, approached Dinar Mayor Veysel Topçu as he was leaving a Municipal Council meeting, brandishing a scalpel and shouting.
Mayor Topçu escaped the incident unharmed due to the intervention of party members, and the individual, after arguing with those present, subsequently left the scene.
The incident was captured on security cameras, and Kemal E. was later taken into custody by police teams.
In a statement regarding the incident, Mayor Topçu said, "The individual was hiding between the vehicles at the municipality. I know him from before and I am aware that he has a long criminal record. I have information that he was recently released from prison.
The individual walked toward me, shouting and hurling insults about why I switched from the CHP to the AK Party. Because I know him, I was concerned he might harm me, so I moved away from him quickly. During this time, he continued to shout, insult, and curse at me from behind.
Municipal police officers who saw the situation approached the individual, and then the AK Party District Chairman Hüseyin Demir, who was in the area, went to him and asked him to leave the scene and stop cursing.
At this point, based on information I received from our friends at the scene, the suspect had a scalpel in his hand. After arguing for a while longer with those who came to calm him down, the individual left the scene. We have filed a complaint against the individual regarding the incident."
