Due to high taxes on smartphones, models in the premium segment, in particular, are sold at very high prices in Turkey. The 1TB storage version of the newly released iPhone 16 Pro Max is sold for 119,999 TL. Given this situation, many people want to bring phones in the premium segment from abroad. However, an IMEI registration fee is charged in Turkey. It has emerged that this amount, which increases every year due to inflation, will increase even more in 2025.
HOW MUCH WILL THE 2025 IMEI REGISTRATION FEE BE?
With the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announcing the October 2024 inflation figures, the revaluation rate has also been determined. The revaluation rate for 2024 was set at 43.93 percent. Accordingly, the 2025 IMEI registration fee will be 45,614 TL. According to the announced figures, the IMEI fee has risen by 34,000 percent in the last 10 years.
In 2015, the IMEI registration fee was set at 131 TL; it increased gradually over the years, and at an incredible rate in the last 3 years.
It was 138 TL in 2016, 149 TL in 2017, 500 TL in 2018, 1,500 TL in 2019, 1,838 TL in 2020, 2,006 TL in 2021, and 2,732 TL in 2022. In 2023, it was hiked twice, rising to 6,091 TL in the first 6 months and up to 20,000 TL in the second period. While it was 31,692 TL in 2024, it will be 45,614 TL next year.
