Attention those with old-style ID cards: Transactions will not be possible from that date
The General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre has made the use of chip-enabled ID cards mandatory to increase transaction speed and prevent fraud. Accordingly, transactions will not be possible with old-style ID cards.

As of January 1, 2025, transactions will not be possible at land registry offices with old-style national identity cards.
Across Turkey, since the transition to chip-enabled ID cards began in 2016, these cards have been used in many areas such as banking, healthcare services, and tax transactions.
Chip-enabled ID cards play a secure role in digital services such as e-Signature and identity verification processes, and provide convenience in transactions.
For the security of the land registry, the Republic of Turkey ID cards (chip-enabled ID cards) and the Electronic Identity Verification System (EKDS) are used to determine ownership and verify personal identity information.
In this context, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change's General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre has made the use of chip-enabled ID cards mandatory as of the new year to ensure that transactions are carried out securely and effectively.
Chip-enabled ID cards will be used for important land registry transactions such as real estate buying and selling, inheritance-based land registry transactions, and heir determination. The application will both increase transaction speed and help prevent fraud.
Those who have not switched to the new-style ID card will not be able to perform any transactions at land registry offices with their old-style IDs starting from January 1, 2025. To avoid any grievances in land registry transactions, IDs must be renewed by December 31.
Applications for ID renewal can be made through Provincial Population and Citizenship Directorates or via e-Government.
