Awards presented at the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival

The awards for the National Feature Film Competition were presented at the 31st International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival, organized this year by the Adana Metropolitan Municipality.

The Grand Award Ceremony, held at the Çukurova University Congress Center and hosted by Özlem Gürses, began with artists walking the red carpet to the ceremony area.

DECEASED ACTORS COMMEMORATED

During the ceremony, where the names of Turkish cinema actors who passed away last year were read, a video compilation of events held throughout the festival was shown, and Çetin Akdeniz gave a concert.

BEST FILM: ONE OF THOSE DAYS WHEN HEMME DIES

In the National Feature Film Competition, where 11 films competed, the "Best Film" award was given to "One of Those Days When Hemme Dies," directed by Murat Fıratoğlu.

Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Jury President Nuri Bilge Ceylan presented the award to director Fıratoğlu together.

In his speech while presenting the award, director and screenwriter Nuri Bilge Ceylan pointed out that no other award had been given to this film by their jury at the festival, saying, "This is a film that has not received any awards until now. Because I also think a bit like this: the film that receives the best film award already contains all the parameters within itself from the start. I mean, if the acting, editing, cinematography, and other things in it weren't good, it wouldn't receive the best film award anyway. So that's not a very strange thing. Sometimes it's criticized, that's why I'm saying it."

The film was also deemed worthy of the Cüneyt Cebenoyan Best Film Award by the Film Critics Association (SİYAD) jury.

Merve Dizdar also attended the ceremony.

BEST ACTOR AND ACTRESS AWARDS

The "Best Actor" and "Best Actress" awards were shared during the night.

While Erdem Şenocak for the film "Dead Season" and Ahmet Rıfat Şungar for the film "Edge of the Night" received the "Best Actor" award, the "Best Actress Award" was shared between Funda Eryiğit and Ece Yaşar for their roles in the film "Dead Season."

At the festival, the Best Director Award went to Burak Çevik for his film "Nothing in Its Place."

KARALAR: HOW HAPPY WE ARE IF WE MADE THEM FORGET THEIR PAIN EVEN FOR A FEW MINUTES

Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar said in his opening speech that they were experiencing the honor, pride, and joy of holding the 31st edition of the festival, which is a brand of Turkey.

Stating that 130 films were shown in 300 venues during the festival, Karalar said, "Every year, we bring cinema to our people. We take it to villages, towns, districts, and neighborhoods. This year, we took it to the earthquake-stricken regions that experienced great pain. To Maraş, Malatya, Adıyaman, Hatay... How happy we are if we made those brothers and sisters forget their pain even for a few minutes. May God never show us those pains again."

Karalar expressed that they want to bring a Yılmaz Güney Museum to the city.

YILMAZ GÜNEY AWARD

The "Yılmaz Güney" award at the festival was deemed worthy for the film "Edge of the Night," directed by Türker Süer.

Jury President Ceylan, who presented the award, said that he had presented this award at the festival before, and at that time he had said that there should be a Yılmaz Güney Museum in Adana, and that he was even surprised that there wasn't one.

Ceylan stated the following:

"Yılmaz Güney is, of course, someone I love very much. I have said this many times in various places. I have been very influenced by him and his cinema, and I have learned a lot from his cinema... He is a different name who has influenced and encouraged not only me but many people in Turkish cinema and very important directors in world cinema. Not just his cinema; he is a legendary person with his personality, character, flaws, strengths, and perhaps his mistakes and truths. I have perhaps learned a lot about human nature from his personality and those peculiarities of his. I have read almost everything written about him."
