In the Akyazı district of Sakarya, an individual attacked the Atatürk Bust with an axe he was holding in Ömercikler Neighborhood.

Citizens in the vicinity reacted to the moments, which were recorded by a citizen's phone camera. Following the attack, citizens intervened, and police teams were called to the scene.

DETERMINED TO HAVE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Police teams detained the axe-wielding attacker. It was learned that the individual who attacked the Atatürk statue located in Sakarya Akyazı Square was 51-year-old Yasin U., who suffers from schizophrenia.

The individual, who was taken into custody by the Sakarya police, was admitted to a mental and neurological diseases hospital after his interrogation was completed.
