Ayşe Ateş: All the beliefs we dedicated our lives to were lies!

Ayşe Ateş, the wife of former Idealist Hearths President Sinan Ateş, who was assassinated in Ankara, has responded to the comparison with 'Rakel Dink'.

Sharing an article by Göksel Göksu published on Medyascope titled "Two women who recognize each other by the pain in their hearts: Ayşe Ateş and Rakel Dink" on her social media account, Ateş commented, "When they murdered Sinan in the middle of the street, I saw that all the beliefs we had carried and dedicated our lives to until that moment were lies."

Ayşe Ateş's post is as follows:

"I am not a political figure. I have never been one at any period of my life. Until the day Sinan was murdered, I was a housewife whose profession was teaching. I had a life spent with my children at school in the morning and at home in the evening. When Sinan was killed, I was offered a parliamentary candidacy, but I did not accept it. Because I do not understand politics. Let them give me and my children the freedom to live, that is enough. Let them give us justice, let all the worldly possessions be theirs.

When they murdered Sinan in the middle of the street, I saw that all the beliefs we had carried and dedicated our lives to until that moment were lies.

I followed what happened after Sinan was killed. I watched the silence of those who called him 'Reis' (Chief) until yesterday, and the dishonor of those who stood at his door in subservience. Then I saw that people we did not like or love in the past are holding the murderers accountable to get our rights, and are standing up to the murderers despite the threats they receive. At that moment, with this painful experience I have lived, life taught me something new: There is no right or left. There is humanity. There is goodness.

Since that day, I have made it my philosophy not to ask about language, religion, color, or identity when it comes to pain. I have confronted my past mistakes and errors. I have made the harshest self-criticism.

On this occasion, I would like to state the following: All women in this country who have suffered the same oppression as I have, experienced similar pains, and shared a common fate from the past to the present are my own sisters.

As I have said many times before: The search for justice I have initiated and the legal struggle I am conducting are the footsteps of all consciences seeking justice. It is the struggle for independence of all women who are imprisoned or intended to be imprisoned in their homes through fear and threats; it is the struggle for freedom of all children who are afraid to play in the park.

They want to divide, fragment, and destroy. Just like in the past, they are trying every way to ensure this political murder is not discussed. But it is in vain...

Because we have no other choice.

We know: If we remain silent, stop, or get tired today, there will not be a single safe street left tomorrow for both children and women.

The silencer they want to attach today to the barrel that targeted and murdered Sinan yesterday, and whose sound is heard by everyone, will be attached to the ends of the barrels of other murders tomorrow.

That is why we must continue to be united, to stay together, and to shatter the chilling blackness of darkness with cries of 'Justice!'

They fear women the most in this struggle. That is the reason for their sexist rhetoric, insults, and threats."
