The verdict in the trial of 22 defendants regarding the murder of former Ülkü Ocakları Education and Culture Foundation President and Hacettepe University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Ateş was announced recently.
The court panel announced its decision after the defense attorneys presented their arguments against the final opinion and the defendants were given the opportunity to make their final statements.
The defendants, gunman Eray Özyağci, the driver of the motorcycle used in the incident Vedat Balkaya, and Suat Kurt, who conducted reconnaissance at the crime scene, were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "premeditated murder" and 13 years each for the "attempted murder" of the complainant Selman Bozkurt.
Defendants Doğukan Çep and Tolgahan Demirbaş were also sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "inciting premeditated murder."
Sinan Ateş's mother, Saniye Ateş, made a statement after leaving the courthouse and responded to Devlet Bahçeli's remarks about her, in which he claimed she was 'shedding crocodile tears,' as follows:
"Someone who does not have a child, who has not lost a child, cannot understand my tears. Because I am the only one who knows this wound in my heart. Nothing can hurt me more than the pain of my child. I say it again, let my son's killers find their punishment. Let this justice be served, let everyone take their hands off this judiciary. Let the faces of weeping mothers smile. Let me die in 5 minutes, let me not live. I am old. I am a person with health issues. I am a kidney patient. I had a spasm a week ago."
"THIS SUITS YOU TOO"
Ayşe Ateş, quoting the account named 'Fakülte Reisi' which shared this video of Saniye Ateş and wrote, "As you can see, Sinan Ateş is not only a scoundrel, but also the son of a scoundrel," lashed out at MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli with the words 'look at your work.'
Here is that post by Ayşe Ateş:
"You even had them call my 70-year-old Mother Saniye a 'scoundrel' from the parliamentary podium.
I have left aside the slanders you have cast and the insults you have made; after all the slanders you have thrown at a grieving woman who has buried first her child and then her life partner, you have done this too. Well done! This suits you too.
This great nation observes who is who better every single day."
