Babacan, who closed the doors to CHP, gives a green light to AKP! Striking remarks on Erdoğan

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan made important assessments regarding the possibility of his party forming an alliance with the AKP.

As a guest on the pro-government AKİT TV, Babacan stated, "The management system of Turkey, that is, tying all authority to the initiative of a single person, is not right. The Republic of Turkey is a very large state. Turkey is a large country. There is no such thing as such a large country being managed from a single center and by the decision of one person. This decision-making mechanism must definitely change. The decision must be delegated from the top down. The decision must be delegated from the center to the provinces."

"WE HAVE EVEN SAT DOWN WITH THE CHP"

Babacan responded to a question about his party's possibility of an alliance with the AKP by recalling the cooperation they had with the CHP during the 2023 General Elections.

"Look, I have neither resentment nor anger toward Mr. Tayyip. I never doubt Mr. Tayyip's love for this country or his faith in God. But the point we disagree on is how this country should be managed," said Babacan, adding, "Now we have even sat down with the CHP, we have worked together. We have done everything. Of course, we would not have a categorical stance, but let this not be misunderstood; as of today, as of today, I do not see a will for change in Mr. Tayyip or in the AKP's management staff."

Stating that he does not see a transformation in the AKP camp regarding the issues he criticizes, Babacan continued his words as follows:

"I do not see a will that says, 'Some things are missing, some things are wrong. We need to fix these.' On the contrary, they defend what is, and they have even made statements many times, saying they will further strengthen the presidential system, right? He has made statements many times. When they say they will further strengthen the presidential system, how can we discuss anything? We are talking about a management model where authority is shared, authority is spread, accountability is always present, and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey is operated in its oversight function, meaning everyone is ready to be held accountable."

TARGETED THE CHP: WE DO NOT SEE A WILL FOR RECONCILIATION

When the host asked, "For example, would you sit at the same table with the CHP, the current CHP, today?" Babacan replied, "That would not happen," and used the following expressions:

"Because they are in a different world right now. Moreover, their chairmen are not in a position to sit at the table either. What do they say? They say, 'We will build an alliance at the grassroots level.' In other words, they are saying, 'We are candidates for the grassroots of all parties, but we have no business with the parties themselves.' That is their current stance. I don't know if it will change in the future. Plus, that will for change and reconciliation during Mr. Kemal's era. In other words, as of today, we do not see the will that says, 'Yes, we made a mistake. From now on, we will be different.'"

Stating, "Turkey should not be between two-pole politics. In other words, Turkey should not be condemned to two options like black and white," Babacan responded to the host's assessment that “But as I understand it, I think you have more common ground with the Justice and Development Party than with the Republican People's Party” as follows:

"Historically, of course. In other words, the founding values of the AKP are still valid, they are still valid currency. I would sign the AKP's founding program again today. There is no problem. But the issue is the moving away from those founding values and founding principles over time."
