Bad news for those who said 'yes' in the framework law survey! This reason ranks first

Nefes columnist Aytunç Erkin covered the results regarding the framework law for the second opening process, dubbed “Terror-Free Turkey,” from AREA Research's August survey in his column.

In the survey, participants were asked the question, “What is your opinion on the framework law that passed the TBMM with 467 votes regarding the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process?”

42.7 PERCENT SUPPORT FOR THE FRAMEWORK LAW

While 45.5% of the 2,027 people who participated in the survey stated that they did not support the framework law, 42.7% said they did.

The rates of those who do not support it by voter groups are as follows:

• 21.8 percent: AKP voters
• 33.3 percent: MHP voters
• 57.7 percent: CHP voters
• 83.8 percent: İYİ Party voters
• 66.3 percent: Yeni Party voters
• 14.9 percent: DEM Party voters

REASONS OF THOSE WHO SUPPORT THE LAW

In the survey, participants who stated that they supported the law were also asked for their reasons.

The highest rate was seen in the response, “For terrorism to end and for weapons to be laid down.”

• 30.2 percent: “For terrorism to end and for weapons to be laid down”
• 16.1 percent: “To ensure an environment of peace and security”
• 15.9 percent: “I support it, I find it correct in general”
• 5.7 percent: “For unity, solidarity, and brotherhood”
• 5 percent: “So that there are no martyrs, so that people do not die”
• 4.7 percent: “For the prosperity and peace of the country”
• 4.6 percent: “For the bloodshed to stop/so that mothers do not cry”
• 3.7 percent: “Because it is a decision taken by the state and the nation (the Parliament)”
• 2.6 percent: “For democracy, rights, and freedoms”
• 1.8 percent: “For the future, survival, and interests of the country”
• 1.6 percent: “For the Kurdish issue to be resolved and ended”
• 1.1 percent: “For the development of the country's economy”

REASON OF THOSE WHO DO NOT SUPPORT: “THERE IS NO NEGOTIATING WITH TERROR”

The most common response given by participants who stated that they did not support the framework law was “There is no negotiating with terror.”

• 21.4 percent: “There is no negotiating with terror”
• 12.2 percent: “I don't believe/I don't trust”
• 10.6 percent: “I do not support it in general/I do not find it correct”
• 8.2 percent: “The blood of the martyrs has a right”
• 8.2 percent: “Abdullah Öcalan cannot be released”
• 4.4 percent: “It is a politically motivated law”
• 3.3 percent: “Contrary to a nationalist stance”
• 2.8 percent: “It is treason”
• 1.8 percent: “A wrong decision”
• 1.7 percent: “It will not benefit the country, it will cause harm”
• 1.3 percent: “Contrary to the country's interests and the unitary state structure”
• 1 percent: “Criminals should serve their sentences”
