Bahadır Erdem: This is a lesson the AKP must learn

CHP MP Bahadır Erdem made statements to 12punto on the 7th day of the protests in Saraçhane.

As citizens continue to protest the imprisonment of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, CHP deputies are also making appearances in Saraçhane, where the protest is taking place. CHP MP Bahadır Erdem also joined the protests and spoke to 12punto's Hazal Güven.

Here are those statements from Erdem:

All of Istanbul is here; the support Istanbulites are showing for Mayor Ekrem and the support they are showing for the rule of law is important. This is a lesson the AKP must learn, a voice they must hear; even the deaf sultan has heard it... They will not achieve any gains by using the judiciary as a stick, by removing CHP mayors from office, or by appointing trustees to some of our municipalities. Because this public will stand behind their right to vote and be elected to the very end...

The diversity here represents the citizens of the Republic of Turkey; there are Istanbulites here from every socio-economic background, and they are standing behind the votes they cast. Our mayor will also emerge, and this injustice will end. The Republic of Turkey is a very great state; in the words of Atatürk, Turkey will remain forever. We continue to resist together to protect this.
