Bakırhan's scandalous remarks had drawn backlash: AKP brings DEM Party's demand to Parliament

The AKP group met following the visit of the resolution commission established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) to terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı.
The meeting, which included commission member deputies as well as AKP's Hüseyin Yayman, who was part of the delegation that went to İmralı, was chaired by AKP Group Deputy Chairman Abdulhamit Gül.
The report to be prepared regarding the resolution process was discussed at the AKP's İmralı meeting.
According to the report by the pro-government Türkiye newspaper, the proposals that the AKP plans to bring to the commission's agenda include: creating a framework legal regulation regarding the terrorist organization that announced it has disbanded itself, defining the legal status of terrorists who have laid down their arms, making changes to execution legislation if necessary, reintegrating members of the terrorist organization who have not been involved in crimes into society, and the gradual abolition of the village guard system.
BAKIRHAN'S 'LET VILLAGE GUARDS BE SHEPHERDS' STATEMENT HAD DRAWN BACKLASH
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, who met with farmers in Muş in May, had stated that the village guard system in the East and Southeast was no longer necessary, referring to the terrorist organization PKK having laid down its arms.
Bakırhan had used the expressions, "We will not leave the village guards unemployed, hopefully. Take the weapon from his hand, give him a staff, let him tend to animals in the village. It is a more honorable duty."
These words by the DEM Party's Bakırhan regarding the village guards were met with intense backlash from both political circles and the public.
