Balıkesir Governor Ustaoğlu: 4 of our 22 citizens have been discharged

Stating that the survey work in the 75 neighborhoods of Sındırgı has been completed, Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu said, "Dear members of the press, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in our Sındırgı center at 22:48 this evening. First and foremost, we convey our best wishes to our entire nation, especially our fellow citizens in Sındırgı. From the moment the earthquake occurred, field surveys were initiated, primarily by AFAD and our relevant institutions. Sındırgı has 75 neighborhoods. I would like to say that in the contacts established with our village headmen through the gendarmerie in these 75 neighborhoods, there has been no loss of life in our villages. Thank God, we do not have any problems in that regard at the moment."

Expressing that 3 buildings and one workplace were destroyed in the earthquake, Governor Ustaoğlu said, "On the other hand, as you know, three of our buildings in the center of Sındırgı, which were previously identified as heavily damaged in the earthquake that occurred earlier and where no one was living, have collapsed. As I said, since these buildings were already evacuated, there is no loss of life. On the other hand, a two-story shop in the center of Sındırgı collapsed. Thank God, since our citizen had closed their shop in the evening, we have no loss of life there either."

"THERE ARE NO CITIZENS WITH LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES"

Sharing the information that 22 injured people have arrived at hospitals so far, Balıkesir Governor Ustaoğlu said, "There are 22 citizens who have applied to our hospitals so far. 4 of them have been discharged. Thank God, there are no citizens among the 18 remaining who have life-threatening injuries. We have one or two citizens who jumped from balconies in a panic. On the other hand, we have citizens with minor injuries due to panic. Our Red Crescent is currently on its way to our district center regarding the provisions for our citizens, and our Red Crescent will be in service as soon as possible to meet the needs of our citizens."

Underlining that damage assessment work will begin rapidly in the region in the morning hours, Ustaoğlu said, "On the other hand, we have been in constant communication with our Minister of Interior since the moment the earthquake occurred. They are also currently on their way to our region. Hopefully, they will come to our Sındırgı district in the near future. We spoke with our Minister of Environment by phone. Starting tomorrow morning, field surveys and damage assessment work will begin in all our neighborhoods. Again, all our teams are currently on their way to our region regarding damage assessment."

Stating that heavy rainfall is affecting the region following the earthquake, Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu said, "On the other hand, as you can see, there is heavy rainfall in our district center and our province right now. We have declared a holiday for all our schools across the province tomorrow. We are keeping all our schools open in our Sındırgı center as well. Similarly, our mosques and guesthouses are open. Our citizens can use our public institutions, guesthouses, and schools for shelter needs during this period at the very least. I would especially like to state that our schools are open at this point."

Ustaoğlu said, "Thank God. The fact that there has been no loss of life so far is, of course, our greatest consolation. We are currently in Sındırgı with our deputies and all our institutions and organizations. Likewise, we are all in the field together with all our institutions to meet the needs of our citizens. I once again convey my best wishes to our entire nation."
