Within the scope of two separate investigations conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained on the morning of March 19 following a police raid on his home.

Following İmamoğlu's detention, the Republican People's Party (CHP) went on high alert and protested the decision across Turkey.

Thousands gathered in Istanbul's Saraçhane, Ankara's Güven Park, and at METU (ODTÜ) to hold support marches for İmamoğlu.

A banner featuring photos of Chairman Özgür Özel and İmamoğlu, with the text "There is no salvation alone, either all together or none of us. We will not surrender to a coup", was also hung at the CHP Headquarters.
