Behind the Scenes: A phone call from Ekrem İmamoğlu to Kılıçdaroğlu: “Why wasn't I invited?”

It has been claimed that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was absent from CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's last three visits to Istanbul and did not attend his party's 100th-anniversary event in Ankara, called Kılıçdaroğlu to ask, “Why were we not informed?”

While "change" debates continue within the CHP, the fact that IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu did not attend the CHP's 100th-anniversary event held at the party headquarters in Ankara on September 8, and was not present during CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's last three visits to Istanbul, has drawn attention.

While statements from the party headquarters and the Istanbul Provincial Administration indicated that “notification was provided,” according to IMM sources reached by Gazete Pencere, İmamoğlu was not informed about the Istanbul events.

“WHY WERE WE NOT INFORMED?”

According to the claim, İmamoğlu called Kılıçdaroğlu for this reason and asked, “You have come to Istanbul for the third time and again you did not inform us. What is the reason for this?” It is stated that Kılıçdaroğlu pointed to the Istanbul Provincial Administration and replied, “Did the province not inform you? Let our private offices talk.”

STATEMENT FROM KAFTANCIOĞLU: NOTIFICATION WAS PROVIDED

When asked by journalist İsmail Saymaz, İmamoğlu had implied that he was not informed, saying, “I am not the person to answer this question. You cannot give an answer on a matter you have no information about.”

Istanbul Provincial Chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu had stated regarding the events in the city that “all party boards, including İmamoğlu, were informed.”

CHP Spokesperson Faik Öztrak, on the other hand, said after the Central Executive Board meeting the other day, “When our Chairman goes to a province, all party officials in that province are aware of that program. Our provincial chairs ensure the coordination of this. Ekrem Bey is also our mayor.”
