Bekir Bozdağ's past remarks about FETÖ leader Fetullah Gülen resurface after he reads the Atalay decision: 'He is a valuable person'

Following the decisions made by the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation regarding TİP MP Can Atalay, Deputy Speaker of the TBMM Bekir Bozdağ, who took over the duty from TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, stripped TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay of his parliamentary status.

Despite the reactions and protests, the speech Bozdağ previously made regarding FETÖ has resurfaced.

"HE IS A VALUABLE ASSET..."

Bozdağ had used the following expressions in his speech at the TBMM General Assembly in 2011:

“Fetullah Gülen is a valuable asset raised by this country. You may like him or not, but he is a valuable person. He is a wise person. He is performing his service for the upbringing of generations committed to the national and spiritual values of this country. Everything is also transparent.”

Speaking in Parliament just before the decision was read, TİP Chairman Erkan Baş criticized the decision and used harsh expressions toward Bekir Bozdağ.

"HE DESERVES TO READ IT..."

Baş stated the following:

An action contrary to the Constitution is being taken. Every citizen who knows how to read and write can understand that the Constitution is being trampled upon.

We refuse to have a decision that says 'let us not recognize the Constitution' entered into the records.

When this decision enters the parliamentary records, your own parliamentary status will be questioned. I ask every citizen with a conscience: If Can Atalay is an MP, why is he in prison? If he is not an MP, what are you stripping him of?

Can Atalay is my comrade in the struggle. He never once said 'I did not do it, I was not involved.'

He said he is honored and proud of everything he has done. We defend what we have done.

A decision is to be read here today, but the Speaker of Parliament is not here. If you say this procedure is appropriate, then Numan Kurtulmuş has been acting irregularly for months. Numan Kurtulmuş is not reading it, Sırrı Süreyya Önder is not reading it. Bekir Bozdağ is reading it, because he deserves to read it!

Even if you kill us, even if you strip us of our parliamentary status, we will not bow down to you!

Upon Deputy Speaker of the TBMM Bekir Bozdağ reading the decision issued by the 3rd Chamber of the Court of Cassation, MPs walked to the podium with signs reading "Freedom for Can Atalay." At that moment, a copy of the Constitution was thrown at Bozdağ by CHP Bartın MP Aysu Bankoğlu.
