Berkin Elvan commemorated on the 11th anniversary of his death...

Berkin Elvan, who was wounded in the head by a tear gas canister fired by police during the 2013 Gezi Park protests and passed away on March 11, 2014, at the age of 14 after 269 days in a coma, will be commemorated at his graveside on the 11th anniversary of his death. 

The Elvan family has issued a call to gather at Feriköy Cemetery, where he is buried, to commemorate Berkin. 

The family announced that they will be at Feriköy Cemetery at 15:00 to commemorate their child. 

The statement read as follows:

“We are commemorating our Berkin!

It has been 11 years since our child, our dear one, our Berkin was torn from us.

On the 11th anniversary of his murder, we will be at Feriköy Cemetery for our Berkin, for all children, and for justice.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED? 

Born on January 5, 1999, Elvan was wounded in the head by a gas canister fired by police on June 16, 2013, during the Gezi protests that began in June 2013, and passed away on March 11, 2014, after remaining in a coma for months. Police officer Fatih Dalgalı, who was ruled to have caused Elvan's death, was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in prison.
