Beware of phone scammers: She gave away her gold and sold her 3-story house
Dilber Berkbasan, a resident of the Kozan district in Adana, was defrauded by an individual who called her on the phone and identified himself as a prosecutor, along with his accomplices. The woman has filed a police report, alleging that she gave her gold and the proceeds from the sale of her 3-story house to the scammers.

Dilber Berkbasan, a 58-year-old resident of the Kozan district of Adana, was called on May 11 by an individual who identified himself as a prosecutor. The caller intimidated her by claiming that "she was harboring individuals who had committed a jewelry store robbery and that these people, through their collaborators at the land registry office, would seize her 3-story house."
The suspect first demanded her gold, and after taking approximately 400 grams of gold, he deceived the woman by promising that he would return the money, convincing her to sell her 3-story house so that the "collaborators at the land registry office" could be caught.
Berkbasan sold her house to a real estate agent in the district, left the money at a jewelry store, and ensured that these individuals collected it.
After giving the scammers her gold and the money from the sale of her house over a 10-day period, Berkbasan realized she could no longer reach these individuals at the number that had called her and filed a police report, suspecting she had been defrauded.
The police have launched an investigation to apprehend the suspects.
In a statement to reporters, Berkbasan said that her husband was working in Kayseri when the events took place and that the suspects had instructed her not to inform him.
Stating that she spoke with these individuals on the phone constantly for 10 days out of fear, Berkbasan explained that she even had to ask for permission to go buy bread.
Noting that she and her husband had built the house they sold by working in mines and orange orchards, Berkbasan said, "I don't know how this happened. May God protect our state and our nation. I am asking for help. I am asking everyone for help. I want to get my house back. It doesn't matter if the house is saved, it's not an issue."
Berkbasan's husband, İsmail Berkbasan, also stated that he was working in Kayseri when the events occurred, adding, "What can I do? As long as my children are safe, it doesn't matter."
