Beyoğlu District Governorate bans March 8 events

In a statement issued by the District Governorate, it was noted that calls for gatherings had been detected on certain social media accounts for tomorrow at 19:30 at Taksim, Istiklal Avenue, and Sıraselviler Avenue.

The statement included the following expression: "Evaluating that the intended gatherings in question could lead to actions that might disrupt public order and social peace, and pursuant to Article 17 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and Article 32/Ç of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442, all events such as meetings and demonstrations, press statements, distribution of leaflets, and sit-ins have been banned by our District Governorate in all open areas under our administration for a period of 24 hours, starting from 08:00 on March 8."

The measures taken regarding security precautions for the marches, gatherings, sit-ins, and other events intended to be held within Beyoğlu were listed in the statement as follows:

As of 12:00, closing Taksim Square and Gezi Park to pedestrian traffic, and allowing controlled pedestrian entry if necessary. Closing Istiklal Avenue and its side streets, as well as Tünel Square and its surroundings, to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and allowing controlled vehicle and pedestrian entry if necessary. Closing Sıraselviler Avenue and its side streets to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and allowing controlled vehicle and pedestrian entry if necessary. Closing Karaköy Square and its surroundings to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and allowing controlled vehicle and pedestrian entry if necessary. Furthermore, taking into account potential social incidents that may occur throughout our district during the day, including all other possible different topics, closing pedestrian and vehicle traffic in places where marches, gatherings, sit-ins, press statements, and other similar events are intended to be held, and allowing controlled pedestrian and vehicle entry if necessary.
