Beyoğlu harassers' 'She was my cousin' defense
The suspects who attacked a 25-year-old woman on the street were initially released after being detained. Following the emergence of security camera footage, the two individuals were detained again and subsequently arrested. The statements given by the suspects after being taken into custody have been revealed.

In the incident that took place in Istanbul's Hüseyinağa Neighborhood on Tuesday, October 1, around 04:00, 25-year-old İremşan A. was followed by two individuals while walking on the street.
After a while, the suspects walked toward the woman, cornered her against a wall, and began to harass her. Following the woman's screams, bystanders intervened in the situation.
'SHE WAS MY COUSIN' DEFENSE
During the harassment, one of the suspects tried to deflect the reaction of the people around by saying, "She is my cousin." However, citizens responded by saying, "What does it matter if she is your cousin?" and rescued the woman from the hands of the harassers. Detention and Criminal Records
Following the incident, one of the suspects, S.T., was caught in an operation carried out in Mersin.
The other suspect, Ö.K., was detained in Istanbul and taken to the Beyoğlu District Police Department's Taksim Şehit Haşim Usta Police Station. It was learned that S.T. has criminal records for "sexual assault," "resisting an officer," "drug use," and "robbery." Ö.K. has records for "sexual assault," "intentional injury," "resisting an officer," and "theft from a vehicle."
ARREST DECISION
Both suspects were arrested by the Istanbul Duty Criminal Court of Peace on charges of "sexual assault" and "deprivation of liberty" and were sent to prison.
