As part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of election fraud and violation of the Law on Political Parties during the final elections of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress, Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney gave testimony at the Çağlayan Courthouse in the capacity of a 'suspect.' Güney's testimony lasted approximately 1.5 hours.
In a statement issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that "within the scope of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the crime of violating Law No. 2820, Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney was summoned to give testimony via a summons notice."
"I AM SADDENED TO BE FORCED TO RESPOND"
Regarding an audio recording alleged to belong to him, İnan Güney had stated the previous day: "I am saddened to be forced to respond to such an ugly slander. I would like to share with the public that we have filed a criminal complaint against the social media users in question, requesting that an investigation be launched for the crime of defamation against the perception operations being attempted through untruthful accusations, and that the suspects be punished in accordance with the Turkish Penal Code and other relevant legislation."
