Birthday letter from Vera to her father Tayfun Kahraman
Vera, the daughter of urban planner Tayfun Kahraman, who is imprisoned in the Gezi Park trial, wrote a letter to her father for her birthday. In the letter, which was penned by her mother, Vera Kahraman said, "I used to have a good time with you in the old days. Mom shows me photos of those times on her phone. Daddy, we will celebrate my birthday next week, but I don't think you will be able to come. I am very, very sad that you cannot come to my birthday this year either."

Vera, the daughter of Tayfun Kahraman—who has been imprisoned for 27 months after being sentenced to 18 years in prison in the Gezi Park trial on charges of "attempting to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey or to prevent it from performing its duties"—has written a letter to the prison for her 3rd birthday to be spent without her father.
Tayfun Kahraman's wife, Meriç Demir Kahraman, shared her daughter's letter on her social media account.
Meriç Demir Kahraman added the following note to her post:
'THE INJUSTICE WE ARE EXPERIENCING IS NOT JUST OUR FAMILY'S ISSUE, BUT OUR COUNTRY'S'
"We will celebrate Vera's birthday next week, but I think this celebration will also be spent without her father for the third time.
Vera wanted me to write a letter to her father; she thought maybe he would come, as a hope. She said what was on her mind, and I wrote it down. We will mail it to Silivri tomorrow.
I underline it once again: The injustice we are experiencing is not just the issue of our family, my husband, and my daughter's father, Tayfun Kahraman; it is the issue of our country."
The letter that Vera Kahraman had her mother write for her father is as follows:
"My dear daddy;
How are you, daddy? I miss you so much. What are you doing there, is everything okay? Dad, Mom and I are fine, but it would be better if the three of us were together. So, will you come now? I know, Mom says it is not in your hands, but what can I do, I can only tell you. Daddy, I know you will come eventually, but I miss you so much. I used to have a good time with you in the old days. Mom shows me photos of those times on her phone. Daddy, we will celebrate my birthday next week, but I think you won't be able to come. I am very, very sad that you cannot come to my birthday this year either.
'WHY DOES EVERYTHING TAKE SO LONG, DAD?'
Daddy, the picture of the birthday cake you said you sent me hasn't arrived yet either. Why does everything take so long, Dad? Daddy, sometimes I want to talk to the people who are holding you. I want to tell them everything. But I don't know if they will listen to me, Dad, are they listening to you? And besides, how will I find them, Dad? Do you think they will find me? I love you very much, daddy. I know you love me too and you will come. I know. We will do very beautiful things with you again, daddy. I know that one day we will eat my birthday cake together and celebrate together. I love you very much."
