Body found in sea with water jugs tied to feet

In the Konak district of İzmir, a male body was recovered from the sea with water-filled jugs tied to its feet. Authorities are investigating whether the incident was a suicide or a homicide.

The incident occurred around 23:00 at the Karataş Coast on Mustafa Kemal Sahil Boulevard.

According to the information obtained, citizens who saw a person motionless on the sea reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. 

UNIDENTIFIED MALE BODY

Upon the report, medical teams and police units were dispatched to the scene. The person, who was lying motionless on the water, was retrieved and brought to the shore by the Marine Police and Coast Guard teams.

Examinations conducted by medical teams determined that the person pulled from the water had lost their life.

The unidentified male body was taken to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue following an examination by the prosecutor at the scene.

TWO 10-LITER JUGS FOUND TIED TO LEFT ANKLE

While it was determined that the body, which had no identification on it, was approximately 25-30 years old, it was discovered that two 10-liter water-filled jugs were tied to the deceased's left ankle with a rope.

Police teams are investigating whether the incident was a homicide or a suicide, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
