Body mistaken for a child in earthquake was given to another family

The body of police officer Mustafa İlhan, who lost his life under the rubble of the Ebrar Sitesi during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, was mistakenly identified as a child and given to another family, who buried him in Kayseri. After 14 months, his identity was confirmed via DNA testing, and his remains were brought to his hometown of Adıyaman.

According to the information obtained, police officer Mustafa İlhan was caught in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes along with his family on the 4th floor of the Ebrar Sitesi Z Block. There had been no news for 14 months from the officer, whose wife and child also passed away.

As a result of a comparison made with a DNA sample taken from his grieving family, who had been searching for police officer Mustafa İlhan for months, a match was identified.

Following the DNA test, it was determined that the body of a 14-15-year-old child, which had been buried in Kayseri, actually belonged to the missing police officer, Mustafa İlhan.

BROUGHT TO HIS HOMETOWN OF GÖLBAŞI, ADIYAMAN

The body of police officer Mustafa İlhan, which could not be located for 14 months, was exhumed from the cemetery and brought to his hometown of Gölbaşı in Adıyaman. Following a ceremony and funeral prayer held there, Mustafa İlhan was laid to rest at the Kurugeçit Martyrs' Cemetery.

The funeral ceremony was attended by District Governor Tarık Buğra Seyhan, Mayor İskender Yıldırım, District Gendarmerie Commander Major Mehmet Yaman, police personnel, NGO representatives, and citizens.
