Body of 13-year-old Metin, who went missing in a pond, has been found

Tragic news has emerged regarding 13-year-old Metin Çağlayan, who entered an irrigation pond to cool off and disappeared beneath the water in the Genç district of Bingöl. It was learned that his companions were too frightened to tell anyone for hours, and the truth only came to light in the evening when the family began questioning the children. After a search operation that lasted through the night, the body of the unfortunate child was recovered this morning.

The tragic incident, which occurred yesterday afternoon in the village of Servi in the Genç district of Bingöl, plunged the entire region into grief. Three friends had gone to the edge of an irrigation pond near the village to cool off, and two of them entered the water. Shortly afterwards, 13-year-old Metin Çağlayan was caught in the current and disappeared beneath the surface.

THEY STAYED SILENT FOR HOURS OUT OF FEAR: THE FAMILY UNCOVERED THE TRUTH

The other two children, panicked and gripped by fear after the incident, did not tell anyone anything for hours. When Metin failed to return home in the evening, the Çağlayan family grew worried and began questioning his friends in the neighbourhood. Unable to hold back any longer under the family's persistent questioning, the children confessed that they had gone to the pond and that Metin had disappeared in the water.

DIVING TEAMS DISPATCHED FROM DİYARBAKIR

Immediately after the confession, gendarmerie and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area following the family's report. Frogmen (diving teams) from the Diyarbakır AFAD Provincial Directorate also joined the search and rescue operation to assist as the work became more difficult with the onset of darkness.

During the search that continued through the night and intensified with the first light of morning, the area where the other children had indicated Metin disappeared the previous day was thoroughly scanned.

As a result of the meticulous work carried out by the divers, the body of 13-year-old Metin Çağlayan was reached and recovered from the water.

AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN LAUNCHED INTO THE INCIDENT

As the cries of the grief-stricken family waiting by the pond broke hearts, the body of the unfortunate child was taken by ambulance to the morgue of Genç State Hospital for autopsy procedures.

The Genç Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a wide-ranging judicial investigation into this devastating incident that resulted in the death of the 13-year-old child. Authorities issued a vital warning to families, particularly with the arrival of the summer months, urging them to keep children away from unguarded irrigation ponds, dams, and canals.
